fresh greens and classic rust...

Spring rain and early heat waves bring on some fantastically lush green growth!  It's hard to believe just a few weeks ago this little space was covered in a mound of dirty black snow and ice! Yesterday's changeable weather of bright sun and  pouring rain made the space even more beautiful, in its own decrepit way.  It hardly even seems necessary to throw in some greens of my own...so I haven't!  Vintage rust-toned paisleys it is.

Despite flirting with maxis and other dress shapes, I still love bringing out these classic fifties printed cotton dresses.  And well, one can always throw in a contemporary beaded belt for a little touch of pizazz...

floaty...

vintage green floral maxi skirt, ON striped tank, J Crew factory chambray shirt, darn Aldo sandals that DON'T give me blisters but the soles feel like slappy torture after any kind of long walk...
Making up for lost time, I suppose? For some reason, though I've been dutifully cataloguing successes and failures on the dressing-myself front, I just haven't been posting the darn things much.  Possibly because I usually end up failing at getting successful images of the...er... successes?  For instance, yesterday it started raining the minute I went out back to take a couple of shots, and so most were blurry or weird as we rushed through (yes, I even enlisted my man to hold the camera, thus getting weird over-my-head shots!).  Ah well- better to post 'em all and find some goodies in there from time to time, right? The above photo documents a beautiful weekend walk in the warm summer-like sunshine

It has been woefully rainy and chill the past week- I'm in mourning for the insta-summer that we had last week, when I got to pull out all my old warm weather dress friends from storage and swirl around outside in some floaty maxis.  Why is it that we like to cover MORE skin the hotter it gets?  I dunno, but it sure feels nice around the ankles!

Now that I've embraced the maxi trend (must it be on its way out then...?), here are a couple of finds from the Anthropologie sale room that I think will see me through the hot summer!

Daleka Day Dress- 100% silk and 110% pretty (and $49.95)!  I don't usually go for this colour combination, but pinks have me in their grasp this season (and I love redheads!). I've decided the best maxi length for me is just ever so slightly above the ankles (maybe I just feel like I look taller, like my clothes have shrunk, but so be it!)

Scoopback Maxi dress.  This was all of $19.95, down from $148, and I adore brown dresses!  (oops, and there we go again with another inspirational redhead!)

Oh, and yet another...I couldn't resist this Urban Outfitters soft cotton floral at $15!

Now if only I could find the perfect wedge sandals that could make me tall and willowy and never give me blisters...

alien dandelions and stitched eclipses...

vintage polyester floral skirt, Anthropologie Stitched Eclipse buttondown and Moss Bauble necklace, Chie Mihara Genio oxfords
Every dog has its day, and man, has this skirt ever been waiting a long time... I bought it at a local vintage shop about 10-12 years ago and it has made it through millions of wardrobe culls despite never being worn. It is this print that convinced me I could love black and blue together (and then I also just discovered today how wonderfully it works with chartreuse!)  Well, last year I finally took in the too-loose waistband a little and then helpfully gained a few pounds, and this thing has finally become a constant companion.  So good with chambray, and textured blacks, and chartreuse blouses and cardigans...love it!

Gee, I wish I had a bigger closet so all those ladies-in-waiting might have a better chance at being noticed by this queen of hoarders :)

Any beloved things lurking in your closet that you never ever wear but hope to fit it in someday? (Fit in it someday...? I have a few of those too...)

And of the beloved things lurking in my closet, some of them are quite new of course, such as this delightful 'alien dandelion' necklace and black embroidered top.  Constant companions.

coraline...

Oh boy.  That was an unintentional blog break!  Summer hit the city for a glorious week or so, work has kicked my butt utterly and completely... But, you know, I invested some time in the big winter-to-summer closet switcheroo and I'm thrilled to reunite with some long-lost floral friends.  Though the manfriend was somewhat horrified by the tower of frothy dresses and skirts that formed on the bedroom floor.  He looked through them, pointedly counting off the unfortunately countable number of days before Fall returns.  sigh.

And we can certainly have fun with it while it lasts!  I've been absolutely obsessed with all shades of coral (yeah, I know, it used to be 'orange', but now I'm just perceiving it as coral, see?) Starting with the gorgeous medallion print of this light blouse...
