Anthropologie In a Day jumpsuit

Yup.  I done it. Snip, snip. I picked up this lovely printed romper a year ago on clearance, looking forward to making it into a dress.  I know rompers are still most definitely 'in' but they really don't work for me.  The first time I saw this piece, I fell in love with the retro shape and bold summery print.  And then I realized it was pants.  nope.

I've been really slow to mod things lately- and I'll probably keep tinkering with it for awhile (hey, 'cause I can.  call me the lazy perfectionist.  I think it's a bit too long, right? Could be shorter?)  How about renaming it 'Within a Year jumpsuit'?

I'm reminded of this since I'm currently trying to pack for my annual pilgrimage to the seashore, and I seem to be packing exclusively 'make it work' projects.  sigh.  oh well.  whatever makes ya happy, right?

I also have a mountain of books- including a 1200 page behemoth. I think I'm going to have to edit my selection!

mid-century moderns...

This spring I was obsessed with finding a simple sleeveless pink blouse.  Etsy was not coming to the rescue- too much 80s- and I couldn't find anything in contemporary retail. I was starting to think I might have to make something myself (we're talking REAL desperation, I guess).  But then I visited an incredible local vintage shop with a friend, and there it was- a bit girlier, with a pretty, embroidered collar.  I had to remove some remarkably oversized sleeves, but I was left with a perfect little blouse with impeccable floral details.

I wore it the other day with the perfect green, perfect silk skirt- one of those holy grail items I've been seeking for a few years.  My ebay 'saved search' for this amazing Madewell skirt came to the rescue over the winter, though I don't think any of its forays into the world have been photographically documented.  (hey, so what else is new?)  I love a swishy, swirly light silk skirt, so I took a breezy stroll at lunchtime to a nearby mid-century monument, our own little touch of Mies van der Rohe in Montreal,  a sort-of mini Seagram building.

While we're talking about mid-century icons...(nope, I'm not that old yet)...

Wait, you didn't expect me to toddle out the ol' mid-century modern designation without bringing in the ol' mid-century modern skirt?  I guess there are different kinds of vintage- this is definitely vintage Anthropologie (um, circa 2009?).  And the ol' mustard and white lace combo, also classic.  It's really almost too easy.  But then, so is summer.  and sunshine. sigh.  bliss.

sunset pinks...

Vintage pink midi skirt, J Crew striped top, Madewell necklace, Born wedges
It's funny, a couple of months ago I suddenly found myself obsessed, absolutely driven, to acquire some soft pale pinks. You know I'm all about the earth tones and brights, and here was something I found my life.  ahem.  Because skirt options in the retail world are still pretty sad and insufficient these days (what's up with that?) I spent several weeks haunting Etsy. It's a great place to shop, but very dangerous for me 'cause I have a hard time saying no to one-of-a-kind pieces!  vintage, pink, skirt, midi, knee, wrap, 50s, 60s, 70s (not desperate enough for 80s, but I know that day is coming!).  And suddenly one day, there it was- the perfect long elegant midi skirt. It has a nice nubby silk texture, and incredible sway as you walk.

It's a good thing I'd already found the perfect pink skirt, because recently my old friend Anthropologie came around to the pink zeitgeist and introduced this splendid dusty tulle floral magnificence.  Just right for a  reflective sunset portrait. I'm looking forward to wearing my own skirt into the fall with more rusty earth tones- I have just the right ankle booties apparently.  But summer first, please!

oh, maybe the boots are a good idea- my toes are still all scraped up from a recent weekend at the lake...
